Services: Down-hole Methods

Applications

  • Relog existing wells having insufficient data
  • Construct stratigraphic cross-sections between wells
  • Identify thermalclines associated with water flow

Down-hole logging has been routinely conducted for over 50 years in the petroleum and mining industries and these same principals are applicable to the environmental and geotechnical fields. Down-hole logging methds are commonly used to relog an existing exploratory boring when the existing geologic logs are not available and/or have insufficient information. These methods are also used to correlate the stratigraphy between wells.

Down-hole logging uses an automated cable/winch system to lower a specific tool down an existing drill hole to measure a specific physical, electrical, and/or acoustical property. The more common down-hole geophysical methods commonly used include induction, natural gamma, temperature, and sonic logging.
