The Dept. of Oil and Gas reported an abandoned oil well on a real estate development site.

Our goal was to find it.

We established a data sampling grid and collected total field magnetics data.

The data was processed on site and used to generate a total field magnetics contour map.

Oil wells are generally characterized by their monopole signatures as noted in this contour map.

After we identified the surface projection of the oil well, a backhoe excavated and revealed its steel casing.
