CASE STUDY - Locating Rebar and Post-tension cables

A Ground Penetrating Radar Investigation

Our client was an electrical and plumbing contractor.

Our goal was to investigate 9 proposed core locations and find a window in which 6-inch cores could be cut through the concrete without cutting rebar or the post-tension cables.

This image was of an adjacent pad which illustrates the density of the rebar.

We used our GSSI SIR-10A+ ground penetrating radar unit.

We used both the 900KHz and 500MHz antennas to check the 9 proposed core locations.

These are the marks we placed on the concrete illustrating the rebar and post-tension cables locations.

Our client then assisted in finalizing core locations.

The final core locations were reinvestigated to confirm that absence of rebar and post-tension cables.

They were later successfully cored.

Below is the GPR data over a proposed core location.
