CASE STUDY - Drum Search

A High-Definition Metal Detection Investigation

Our goal was to identify trenches containing buried drums.

The site was 12 acres, had minimal vegetation, but was excessively wet and muddy. In fact, the data collection staff frequently lost their boots in the mud.

We set up the data-collection grid using plastic pin flags and spray chalk.

EM-61 data were collected along traverses
spaced 5 feet apart.

All data were processed in the field.

The data were processed and used to generate a contour map showing targets of interest.

One trench containing drums was identified and its perimeter was staked and flagged in the field.

An excavation of the drum trench yielded over 30 crushed drums.

This survey required 3 field days to complete.
